Return to Halloweentown versus Twitches Too A drama, family, comedy, and fantasy films can sometimes seem too similar, but both movies have some differences that set them apart from others. Although Return to Halloweentown and Twitches Too are similar in that they both have witches, saving family and friends, and destroying bad people, Return to Halloweentown focus on breaking the curse on the necklace while Twitches Too addresses setting their father free from the dark shadow. Tolan, the author of Surviving the Applewhites, could have chosen any musical for the applewhites to do but she chose for them to do The Sound of Music as a musical because of how the theme and family compares to the movie. The Von Trapp family had lots of order in the beginning, weren’t allowed to have fun, and had lots of rules. This was very different to the Applewhites who had very little order, respected each other's creativity, and didn’t have many rules at all. “Like a Dog”: Novel vs Film The Trial, written by Franz Kafka, is a novel about a banker named Joseph K. who is being arrested in his own room. He is arrested in a very suspicious way without knowledge of his charges. Although K. has been arrested he can go about his daily routines with the occasional visits to court. As the case goes through, K. meets many women who seem to be attracted to him. The case seems to become irrational and surreal causing K. to slowly lose his grip on reality.…
On Why I Live at the P.O. the reader can see the irony in the fact that Stella-Rondo who left home marrying her sister's boyfriend, Mrs. Whitaker, ended up returning home with her child which she pretended that was adopted. In contrast with Dee from Everyday Use, Stella-Rondo came back to the old lifestyle that she left few years ago and she remained at home. On Everyday Use, Dee, after her short visit to see her mom and her sister, she decided to return to the new world she discovered years ago with her husband, Asalamalakim. Another difference that the reader can discover reading the two stories, is the fact that Dee’s attitude toward her sister is different than Sister’s attitude toward Stella-Rondo. A Rose for Emily/ the yellow wallpaper William Faulkner and Charlotte Gilman were both early nineteenth century writers. Faulkner’s “A Rose for Emily” and Gilman’s “The Yellow Wallpaper” involve two woman enduring emotional situations. In “The Yellow Wallpaper” the narrator is suffering from depression and her own loneliness. “A Rose for Emily” shows a woman with traditional views struggling with loneliness. The development and adaptation of characters throughout a story changes who the character is and how he/she acts in the story. As a story progresses so does the characters in the story as they become stronger, smarter, and faster as the story requires them to adapt to the situations they are in leading them to change from begging of the story to the end, same could be said about real life from the beginning to the end you are looking at two different characters. A way to mark a new beginning in your life is to dive into a pond and watch god - at least that’s what Janie does in the film adaptation of Their Eyes Were Watching God. The central theme of the film centers around the main character, Janie, and her search for true love and happiness. In the novels we have read this year, The Outsiders and The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Nighttime, both main characters narrate and tell of their experiences and circumstances they have faced. The protagonists from each novel, Ponyboy Curtis and Christopher Boone, share many similarities but also have several differences shown throughout the books. In both novels, the main character was a teenage boy who had to face many obstacles throughout his life. Christopher’s autism is a constant struggle he has to face daily. The Most Complicated of Misfortunes In two of our readings during this semester of American literature there was some striking similarities and some differences between the main characters from The Contrast and The Coquette. Eliza Warton and Maria Van Rough both get diminished for not following gender roles during their era, both women interact with financially stable men and both women have different end results with the men they interact with. Women in early America were bound by standards which Eliza and Maria deemed to be pointless to them by preferring to follow their own rules. The Red Tree (Shaun Tan, 2001) is a children’s picture book that is both written and illustrated by Shaun Tan. The Red Tree is a book about depression, despair and ultimately, hope. The book follows a girl struggling with depression who, at the end of the book, finds hope in the form of a red tree. For a picture book to be successful, both the illustrations and written text generally can exist independently, but complement each other. There is a strong marriage between the written and visual language in Tan’s book that creates a harmonious connection to powerfully and effectively represent depression.…
