Short Story Compare and Contrast Essay
The three adolescent protagonist in the stories “Muffin”, “What’s Inside”, and “Fortune Cookie” are facing huge struggles in their life. In order, “Muffin” is about a young girl named Daisy, struggling with bullying at her school. The Narrator from “What’s Inside” is put in a situation where he must stop homicide. “Fortune Cookie” is about Parker dealing with his parents divorce. At first, these three stories seem very different from each other however, they share similarities in the areas of character traits and themes. Daisy, the Narrator, and Parker share many characteristics while also having many differences.To begin with, the three characters express their bravery in many courageous acts. Daisy never gave up even if Alice bullied her and was brave enough to tell someone so they help her. Even when Alice had bullied Daisy many times before she had the courage to kick at her, as stated in the story “She aimed a furious kick at Fat Alice's”. Daisy was also very brave when she ignored the caution lines to find out what happened to the old lady “Daisy wasn't listening. She was edging along what was left of the sidewalk, past the crater, past houses whose windows were blank and empty, their glass all blown in by the bomb. They all carry the message that you should “Treat others the way you want to be treated”. Also, they informed us about how we should be courageous and caring. They taught us an important lesson in their own very unique and different ways.
