The Greek Empire spread across three continents and facilitated trade throughout. This time even birthed what was known as the “Silk-Road”. This “Silk Road” was the route that the Greeks and other Europeans used to trade with the “Near East” (present day Middle East), and the East . The Mongols also facilitated trade in a major way. They were one of the first civilizations to encourage trade with China on a massive scale . Although the Mongols made trade with China easier, they also lead to the spread of the “Black Death” throughout Asia and the Middle East. Although both early societies maintained simple lives, they were very different. Early Greeks had two variations of life, urban and rural. While the rural population was comprised mostly of farmers, the urban population usually worked as some sort of craftsman . Women had a very secluded role in the Greek civilization. Women were not allowed into any sort of public forum, and were expected to stay and raise the family while the husband handled outside affairs . Greeks were also known as great thinkers, and the spread of ideas and knowledge was a large part of the Greek civilization. This was very different from the Mongol way of life. Mongols were a completely nomadic people, with no sort of cities or even villages. Everything from their clothes to their diet were comprised of the game that they hunted . Women also had a much larger role in the Mongol society. It was even recorded that Chinggis Khan’s wife gave frequent speeches , solidifying her role in a way that no Greek woman would be able to. As you can see, even though both the Greeks and the Mongols conquered vast amounts of land, their methodology varied greatly from one to the other.
