Silent Auction

At the beginning of the semester while at my field placement, I noticed several staff members who appeared burnt out. Since that time, I set a personal goal to aim to lift the spirits of the staff members within the agency. I decorated the bulletin boards around the office giving the staff positive messages to view throughout their day. I also secretly left positive quote cards on their desks in efforts to further build morale around the office. While visiting the offices of the staff members, I have noticed the cards displayed on filing cabinets and taped to desk.
The supervisors sponsored a Social Work Appreciation BBQ, and I orchestrated a Silent Auction as a way to raise awareness for the March of Dimes Foundation. The silent auction also distracted staff members from the everyday stress they encounter, as well as a way to

I also assisted with child abuse and neglect investigations (CAN), intake, individualized service plans (ISPs), comprehensive family assessments (CFAs), entered data into Family, Adult, and Child Tracking System (FACTS), and continued to monitor the families I serve through home visitations.
My favorite part of the internship experience outside of increasing the morale around the office, has been to work with families through the ISP process. This process is put in place in efforts to reunify the family. It gives me great joy to watch the family work on a plan to help them gain custody of their children. It also gives me great job to watch social workers focus on and bring out the strengths of families. I have really enjoyed the opportunity to work with Pike County Department of Human Resources. I feel as though I have gained a great deal of experience that I will utilize throughout my social work career. I am looking forward to the second part of my learning

During my internship at the University of Maryland Shock Trauma Center (STC), I gained more confidence in my decision in eventually pursuing a career in health care, either through being a researcher or a physician. I first started my internship at the University of Maryland STC in my senior year of high school as a requirement for my magnet program. The internship was a volunteer position but we performed basic tasks such as stocking each bay with supplies and saline solution, retrieving blood from the blood bank when needed, and providing blankets and socks for incoming patients. I never paid attention to the importance of these tasks until one specific incident.…

My mother is also a social worker and that gave me an inside perspective. Growing up, I was able to see into the world of a social worker not just at work, but how it affects the rest of their lives. That is what showed me that being a Social Worker is not just the usual you clock in clock out job, but that there is more incorporated in the duties of someone who holds this position. What drew me in was listening to my mom talking about one of her children’s accomplishments. I could see the pride in her eye as if it was me that did something good.…

As a student eager to get out of the classroom and experience working in the mental health field, as well as interact with those suffering from mental illness, an internship was the logical next step to gain this type of knowledge. Although this comes with its natural feelings of anxiety and inadequacy, the knowledge and life skills I’ve gained through this experience has helped me grow as a person, has made me feel more prepared to help those struggling, and has given me the skills to overcome such negative feelings in the future. My internship was with Crawford County Human Services, specifically spending my time with the Blended Case Managers (BCM), and for a small amount of my internship, the Family Case Managers (FCM). For a brief…

The experience gave me the opportunity to work in a clinic and observe what the day-to-day professional life of a doctor entails. I learned about the work involved before seeing a patient including checking for insurance eligibility and prescription use. I learned how to check patient 's vital signs and how to take notes during a medical appointment and upload those notes into patients ' health records. I was able to form strong bonds with the patients over the course of my internship which I particularly enjoyed.
