Sign The Contract Law: A Short Story

The blunt allusion to Tabitha took William by surprise. He always suspected that Mary understood Tabitha’s control over him, but he never expected her to come right out and say it.
“I won’t hold on for much longer,” Mary said through sniffles.
“I know,” William whispered in her ear. “I know. Sign the contract.”
“Really,” Mary said, looking up at him.
“Sign the contract, Mary.”
“You know what comes with this commitment.”
“I do,” William said.
They kissed. In the past, William and Mary’s kisses were always Puritan and awkward - like pimply-faced middle school students petrified that their braces would snarl together leaving their mouths locked in a snag of wires. This time, the kiss was deep and intimate. Mary pulled back and stared at the floor,

She lowered the pen to the paper, paused, and stared at William.
“Sign the contract, Mary,” William said sternly.
The pen flew across the paper. William enjoyed the control he exercised over her. He knew it wouldn’t last much longer without a show of commitment that came with a ring, but for the time being she was at his beck and call. Mary folded the paper, stuffed it in an envelope, and placed the envelope next to her purse. She smiled and let William hug her.
“Come on, let’s watch that movie,” Mary said.
William and Mary sat on the couch and ordered a movie. They ate popcorn and watched the first half of the movie, sitting a respectful distance from one another. Ever since their college days, William knew that Mary liked to leave a little room for the Holy Ghost when they were sitting together. Halfway through the movie, William made a bold move. He laced his left arm around Mary’s shoulders and pulled her in. She succumbed, leaning into William’s chest. He laced his right arm around her midsection, reached down, and pulled her legs across his lap. William expected her to recoil. He was pleasantly surprised when she went limp in his grasp. In Breaking the bargain, Donald Savoie explores the bargain between public servants, ministers, and parliament as they make up the administrative and political parts of Canadian governance. To be more precise, Savoie examines the “territory” between permanent and elected officials in bureaucracy and democracy within Canada (2003, p. 3). In terms of his thesis, Savoie’s central thesis is “the traditional bargain between politicians and public servants is coming unglued, and the space that was once established to determine who is responsible for what is no longer clear” (2003, p. 7-8). In fact, the definition of the bargain has been left for politicians and public servants to figure out and the consequence was the breaking of the traditional bargain between the administrative and political processes in Canada (Savoie, 2003, p. 7). Savoie also argues that the line between politics and…

I promptly responded, Suddenly I realized that all my pages and pages regarding the evils of Satan were virtually lacking of what ‘I really wanted to relate;’ by my words I realized my “true desire” transpired as being deliberately vague. This factual bombshell exploded within my being, along with the amazing issue of how unnerved I had become. Unlike the bold encounter I previously mentioned with my Aunt Lucy May regarding this subject, I found the experience of conversing with an unfamiliar man concerning my Godly sexual beliefs, distressed me as much as if Billy Graham was rummaging through my panty drawer needing answers about my “unmentionables.”…

Flannery O’Connor’s “Good Country People” aids in the deconstruction of formerly held stereotypical norms in the southern United States, specifically those regarding long held belief systems and societal class structures. During the postmodern period, it was popular for traditional values and beliefs to be challenged by writers, and that is definitely the aim of “Good Country People.” The narrative challenges southern tradition by breaking down common belief systems, which in turn comments on the class structure of the South at that time. Throughout the whole of the text, “Good Country People” attempts to deteriorate belief systems.…
