Contrary to the popular belief that front impact crashes are the most fatal, recent studies have shown otherwise. Statistics have shown that side impact crashes are the most dangerous and may cause more fatalities than any other type of crash. In addition, studies prove that seat belts are not very effective in preventing injuries in a side impact crash in adults. Side bags are also relatively ineffective as well because air bags are not able to limit intrusion into the vehicle caused by the striking car. As a result, drivers involved in side impact crashes have twice as high fatality risk as drivers involved in frontal impact.
