Some doctors believe in absolutely no alcohol under any circumstances. It is often said that drinking while pregnant is an unnecessary and risky behavior. Many doctors will encourage pregnant women not to drink because there is not enough research done around what is safe and what isn 't. They also consider the possible side effects to possible even when a sip of alcohol is consumed. When a woman who is pregnant drinks alcohol, it goes from the women 's blood stream to the baby 's car. The woman has a much faster way of metabolizing alcohol then the baby does. One in every eight women report having at least one drink during their pregnancy. Everyone is allowed to develop their own opinions about what is and is not acceptable to do while pregnant. The main problem surrounding fetal alcohol syndrome is that nobody can agree on how much is too much. We have a sufficient amount of evidence on how much damage a lot of alcohol can cause, but very little evidence on exactly how much alcohol does damage or what the effects may be of having that occasional drink.
