It states that if you were to ask a former youth athlete about one of their trophies they couldn’t tell you what it was for if they could even find it . Don't you want your kids to remember enjoying their sports memories instead of being focused on the trophy they'll eventually forget anyways? The more awards we give the less value they have. If everyone receives the same trophy than it's not really special. Youth athletes will lose their motivation to play and try harder if they know they're going to get a trophy either way. Youth athletes are being motivated by the wrong reasons. Some people may think without trophies kids won't be motivated to do different sports. Yes, I do agree that youth athletes should receive trophies when they excel at the sport they play or when they win, however coaches should not spend the same amount of money to make a team as we do to buy participation awards. Is it worth it to make a kid smile? Yes. But is it worth your young athlete believing they’ll get rewarded all their life for showing up?
