According to an Utah survey, 84% of teachers prefer year round-school. Year-round schools provide more breaks throughout the year which leads to more periods of intersession. During these intersessions, teachers would have more time to plan future lessons and more opportunities to attend teacher workshops and to read professional teaching journals. Because of this, the school does not need to build a lot of buildings. One district in Colorado saw savings of 3.56 million dollars while a Florida district in Orange County saved 7 million dollars in construction costs and an additional 88,000 dollars annually (Worthen). Saving money is a major benefit of year-round schools.
In addition, year-round schools decrease the amount of vandalism to the buildings. Since children are in school consistently, they don’t have the time to vandalize buildings. Also, school buildings are always being used, so it is difficult to vandalize the buildings.
