In Michael M. Phillips’ article, “ We Just Have to Work a Little Harder: Marine Corp Puts Women to the Test”, he says, “"We're not going to lower standards, period," said Lt. Col. Mike Samarov, who developed the Marines' approach to the gender-integration order.” (Phillips A.1) Making women’s standard equal to men will set them up for success in the military and overall strengthen all of the new women to be prepared for their time in combat situations. This will make operations easier because of the extra/ proper manpower from the new women recruits Also, Nancy Duff Campbell, co-president of the National Women’s Law Center, says “Thousands of women will now have the opportunity to be all that they can be and our nation’s military will be stronger for it” (Hennigan ). With the new law comes great impact on the strength of the US military in a positive way; women will be able to pursue their obligations to the military in new combat roles.
Women in combat will be much more successful if men and women had equal boot camp training. Women in boot camp are expected to do only about half the physical work men do on their PFT (Physical Fitness Test). This makes women less prepared for infantry school when the time comes and is the reason less than 1 percent pass through SOI (School of Infantry). First Lt. Sage Santagello of the Marine Corp Said,“ I believe that I could pass, and other women could pass, if the standards for men and women were equal from the beginning of their time in the marines” (Eden
