Should We Use The Word Bitch Or Queer

Decent Essays
In society words like such as “bitch” and “queer” are used frequently, words like this are accepted by some while other hate them. I believe use of these words solely depends on context and tone. If these words are used in a derogatory way, they are unacceptable. The word “Queer” has always been used a word that is used in a negative context, I don’t believe this word will ever be acceptable nor it should become acceptable because it hurts a whole community of people. The word “bitch” on the other hand can be used in a joking way, this word fully depends on the tone which its said in, around friends everyone uses this word but it is not meant to harm them. There have been instances when completely benign words in the English language have been deemed derogatory. The most apparent is the use of the word “niggardly”; which means to be stingy especially in reference to money. Yet, when people use the word they are immediately surrounded by people who think that they should not use the word. People have to realize that back in the days that the book was wrote that it was a word that was used regularly. Mark Twain wanted to cause racial tension with the book, he wanted the “hurtful” and “injurious” words to actually feel emotion. Forcing any sort of author or anyone to conform to the social norm of the politically correctness of today’s society is wrong. It’s also teaching the students who know that racial words were used in the past and that sexual expression is a real thing that they need to hide…

You shouldn’t have to limit your language just because a few people find it offensive. You can 't just throw words out there without taking other people 's feeling into consideration, but yet berating someone for using “that’s so gay” and pointing them out as a homophobic is quite irrational. A homophobic is someone who doesn’t accept gays, by using gay to describe someone as stupid, you’re only thinking of how stupid his actions are, not how he’s attracted to guys. Using gay in a pejorative sense is insulting, but not homophobic. In the article “A Queer revolution: Reconceptualizing the Debate Over Linguistic Reclamation,” linguistics scholar Robin Brontsema explains various perspectives and problems related to the reclamation of certain words like “queer”.…
