To what extend should recreational marijuana be legalized?
Passed on November 6, 2012, the famous “Marijuana law 64” went into effect. Since then, the consumption of recreational marijuana in Colorado became legal under strict circumstance. Until now, this legalization still triggers much controversy. Supporters believe that legalizing recreational marijuana is beneficial to both the government and the individual; it generates revenue to government by tax and gives people the basic freedom of choice. Marijuana, a gas-vapor phase with the mixture of trivial particles, harms the body significantly. “The Science of Medical Marijuana?” shows the harmful effect of marijuana with scientific evidence. Among numerous substances marijuana contains, tetraphydrocannabinol(THC) does great harm to human body. THC, the main substance of causing intoxicating and excitement, exists in every 1115 milligrams of marijuana. This substance will stay in the human body for weeks and disrupts the nerve cells in the brain, which would ultimately affect the memory. They are both fundamental desires for human. People need to learn to live with it rather than abolish the use of it totally. He also indicates that the main reasons of some drugs are legal but others are not is nothing to do with scientific researches or health issues, but is because of its common identity. If most old white men have cocaine and marijuana yet most black young men smoke cigarette, then cocaine and marijuana would be legal yet whether legalizing cigarette would be a debate. I admit that this theory maybe bias and over absolute, however considering of the harm of using tobacco and marijuana is almost the same, this theory may shed light to the truth. Therefore, it is certainly unfair to punish people who smoke weed yet leave smokers innocent. Also, evidence also shows that the prohibition of marijuana has more negative effect than marijuana itself. Thus, it is inappropriate to prohibit the use if marijuana
