People who has a disease that is life threatening are not given any special treatment. They are given medical treatment that will not extend their lifespan but will make them comfortable. It is a violation of the Eighth Amendment if a person is refused medical treatment. However, under the American with Disabilities Act, inmates are guaranteed the same access to the prison and laboratories as inmates who are not disabled.
The First Amendment Rights ; Discrimination While entering the prison system people are allowed to keep their first amendment rights. If an inmate decides to practice their First Amendment rights prison officials have to check anything that is send to an inmate or sent out by one. Prison officials can also motor and record any conversation between visitor but is has to be let known. A conversation a prisoner has with his / her spouse or their lawyer cannot be disrupted. Another right that inmates in the prisons system has is the right to be free from racial segregation, treated unfairly based on religion or ethnicity, etc.

It began in the early 1970’s. In solitary inmates are not only separated but isolated from fellow inmates and others. According to the article “Solitarity Confinement Fact” more that 80,000 people in the United States are in solitarity confinement. People can receive solitary confinement for things such as fighting with other inmates, talking back to prison officials, or getting caught with something that they are not supposed to. Some are even placed in isolation when they are not breaking any rules. They are just placed there to separate them from talking to people such as gang members. Inmates are in a small room from 22 to 23 hours a day and allowed up to one hour a day to exercise outside of confinement. When a prisoner enters solitary their chances of receiving an education are less. Solitary confinement in a supermax prison is an 8 by 10 feet room with no windows.
