Should the public feel safe around police officers all the time? Will the cameras they wear capture every move a police officer makes? Everywhere in the world, people might want to rethink the use of these cameras that the police officers have been given. Police with body cameras have been used before but they were never put good use. Less than half of all police officers report information and video evidence when back at the station after their shift. Police Officers in the US and UK using body cameras can be useful for public safety, but they use them incorrectly for public safety. It has been influenced to use the camera's many times, just not enough police use them. With recent “events in Baltimore” of riots happened, and much more in other places, police have hit hard on using the cameras (Vertesi 2). Recent riots caught many devastating things, why the police need to use the cameras is mainly for their own good and to make encounters more clear. A few months later, a fatal shooting happened in a home as a 17 year old showed a gun. The police officer's camera was turned off during the shooting. “Fountain police use them a lot more after the fatal shooting”, a 17 year old was killed while a camera was off, the policeman turned it on after the 17 year old was killed (Cloos 1). Police shouldn’t be so careless, they need to be sure that the camera is on. The idea didn’t just suddenly appear recently, even 25 years ago the idea of police cameras was a thought. The idea was just being heard of with cases that aren’t so serious as some now, though they were still horrible. Some early influences are a “1991 police beating” helped start the idea (Vertesi 1).
