Thanksgiving, a holiday deeply rooted in American culture, is celebrated in accordance with the applicable tradition and rituals. Closely related to the tradition of first immigrants, Thanksgiving does not undergo any fashions and fluctuations. Thanksgiving Turkey has to be big ( 19 lbs) to feed 20 people and to provide much more food than during the regular meal (Friends). Thanksgiving dinner without turkey and typical dishes does not exist, like “4th July with no pie”(Friends). By consuming and celebrating food, people show their appreciation for all they achieved due to their social and national affiliation.…

Will McGillis Colonel Prine DC US History 18 August 2015 10 Days That Unexpectedly Changed America Essay The 10 Days That Unexpectedly Changed America is a book, which highlights a group of very important days in United States history. With that said, this book chose 10 days that the typical person probably would not have chosen. They elected not to choose any day before 1965 and also sought to choose days that would spark debate. Therefore, this student feels that there are some dates, which did not deserve a place in this piece of writing. However, in the opinion of this student, the majority of the days mentioned within the book are indeed very important and warranted a place in this book.…
Can history be trusted? Many Textbooks just skim the surface or contain author bias. Relying on one source of evidence or information can be risky. The story of Christopher Columbus is one specific example. Recent evidence of slavery, biological warfare and forcing christianity on indians proves Columbus day shouldn't be celebrated.…
James Madison’s “Memorial and Remonstrance Against Religious Assessments,” which appeared half of a decade after Jefferson’s “Bill for establishing Religious Freedom,” is an expressive piece defending what he believes is necessary for religious freedom. This article was drafted as a protestation against “[a] bill establishing a provision for Teachers of the Christian Religion,” the goal of which Madison argues is a misuse of governmental power. This remonstrance by Madison is dated June 20, 1785, placing it nearly ten years after the declaration of Independence and a couple of years before the US Constitution. This means that the document was written after the American Revolution, but preceded the United States Constitution - unlike Jefferson’s “Letter to the Danbury Baptists,” which was written some time later.…

History: Squeaky Clean and Ignorant At the age of seven I was taught the story of the first Thanksgiving. My class and I were told of the wonders the Pilgrims explored and how kind and peaceful their meeting with the Native Americans was. We dressed up in handmade frocks and pinafores or vests and feathers as we had a feast and played games. We never once considered the accuracy of the history we were taught, nor the implications of the age old legend of the first Thanksgiving. Nor did I, until my junior year of high school, when my history teacher assigned us an assignment on the smallpox pandemic of the Patuxets tribe.…
Freedom of religion, like every other right that we have here in America, exists only to the extent that the government is willing to protect it. I imagine that, to most of the founding fathers, the extent of religious freedom was really just something along the lines of, “hey, you can choose what kind of Christian you are!” Times change, though, and with them, our society. As the beliefs of the majority in society adapt we, at least in theory, elect leaders who will reflect our new interests; to my understanding, that’s how this whole democracy thing is supposed to go. For the system to function in the way that it should, everyone should theoretically be able to get an equal say in these things.…

American holidays are enacted by Congress and represent a time for fellowship relaxation, and…

America today, pressured by political correctness and social acceptances, has been reduced to become a country where we are more concerned about hurting people’s feelings or protecting our reputations. This mindset has caused America, the country where we used to be able to say what we want-- when we want-- how we want, to become a country overrun by what would sound better than what would be more effective. Our own government has trampled our rights as citizens under free speech, the right to bear arms, and the freedom of religion. We are becoming a society where one thing is absolutely right and anyone who thinks different is condemned a homophobe, racist, extremist, or terrorist. Our Reconstructionist officials (liberals/government activists)…
