The Government Should Allow Children To Drop Out Of School Essay

The Government shouldn’t allow children to drop out of school. Allowing them to drop out contributes to their failure in life. Everybody needs twelve (12) years of a High School Education to get a diploma and maybe go on to college. Children need to set goals for themselves and stick to them and it should always be important to them to reach their goals. Nothing or nobody should come between your goals. People tend to drop out of school when it becomes too hard, are overwhelmed with life choices, feel the need to give up or just run the streets. The Cleveland School District is Ohio’s second-largest school district. (http://stateimpact.npr.org/ohio/tag/cleveland-metropolitan-school-district/)
Girls stay in school longer than boys because they study harder, longer and frequently. Boys tend to lose focus quickly and they spend a lot of time with electronic gadgets or playing games outside or on their phones. Boys tend to have more distractions as girls do, and I will go into more detail in the body of this paper on the distractions. The Government shouldn’t allow children to drop out of school, because they are allowing kids to become failures in life. Everybody should get at least twelve years of school education. When children dropout of school, they go on to earn less money and would need more assistance and help than a child that has graduated from high school. According the Huffington Post, dropouts cost tax payers between $320 to $350 billion dollars a year in lost wages and they are not eligible for 90% of the jobs in our economy. No matter if you are a boy or a girl, if you don’t graduate it is possible that a high school dropout will earn less than a high school graduate. The graduation rate for girls is a lot higher than the boys. When I read information on http://www.ohiohighschools.org/custom3.php it stated that “only 7 in 10 Ohio school students graduate with a diploma”. This is not only a problem here in Ohio, this is a worldwide problem. According to a school psychologist by the name of Dr. Michael Thompson he stated that “Girls outperform boys in elementary school, middle school, high school, and college, and graduate school,” who writes about the academic problems of boys in his book, "Raising Cain." He says that after decades of special attention, girls are soaring, while boys are sluggish. Boys give up more than girls do and they drop out of school. Getting an education for boys is much harder than it is for girls. Girls study way more than boys. The percentage of girls in The Cleveland Metropolitan School District is 48.2%. There are more girls than boys and their percentage would be 51.8% and this is according to clevelandmetroschools.org. That is about 1,486 students in total. This district as a whole is 82 square miles. According to a new study from the Manhattan Institute, it found that not only are girls in the nation’s 100 largest school districts graduating at a 72 percent rate versus 65 percent for their male counterparts, but that the gender gap is even wider among minority students. When you drop out of school you are more likely to get a less paying job and the earning potential will be very limited for someone without a diploma. People without diplomas are more likely to commit crimes in order to earn money; they will steal from people instead of trying to work for the money. Graduates go on to college to get degrees, which will put them in a better place than someone who decided not to graduate high school and go on to college. Having a degree puts you in a better position to earn a higher wage, you gain experience, can get a skill or a trade instead of someone who didn’t graduate who has to work at maybe McDonalds or Burger King making minimum wage until they maybe get their GED and then sometimes your wage isn’t much higher with a GED. Students whether they are a boy or girl should stay in school and focus on graduating and getting their diploma and possibly go on to college and earn a degree. Some high schools offer classes that you can major in such as hair, nursing, cooking,

These issues in the public school system cause an “increase in disengagement.” The schools lack basic educational tools to help kids succeed. The classrooms may be over crowded, they may not have enough books, adequate teachers, school counselors etc. All of these factors make it easy for kids to not be given the attention required to keep them believing school is necessary. Another factor of this pipeline is that a lot of kids have a “zero-tolerance policy.”…

The most logical solution to help with the problem of kids dropping out is to find someway to encourage the kids and provide them a positive atmosphere where they can be influenced to learn. Each person mentioned in this video shared the common problem of the lack of parents or guidance. Kids are greatly influenced by the people around them, specifically their role models, parents, teachers, and other adults in their lives. If the students who are struggling with finding the motivation to do well in school have a stable environment with positive influences, they would most likely find an interest and desire to go to school. However, if the kids are continuing to come home to an unstable environment with little to no positive parental guidance, they will not be able to go on a positive path to success.…

On December 10, 2015, Every Student Succeeds Act was enacted after being signed by President Obama. The previous education policy, No Child Left Behind (NCLB), proved to be unworthy of providing the assurance that every child received the education he or she needed. In addition to this, many conservatives believed that the federal government had too much control over the curriculum and educational standards, impinging states’ rights. This rewritten act replacing the NCLB returns the power from federal control to the state and local levels. Doing so has increased the responsibility of improving or fixing underachieving schools under the state governments.…

In the United States the federal government makes the final decision when it comes to the major political problems of our day. Their word is the law, and most of the time it has the desired effect of extinguishing the problems on a nationwide scale. While this has worked many times in the past, it has never worked and continues to fail when dealing with the national education. Students and their educational needs simply span too broad of a spectrum for the federal government to satisfy each individual 's needs with one blanket statement. As Andrew Smarick, a former official of the education department, said, "The department is essential admitting that the federal government doesn’t know what 's best for the vast majority of the nation 's schools.…

“To what extent do our schools serve the goals of a true education?” In order to accurately define an answer to that question, we must first identify what a true education is, as well as the goals of one. A true education is an education where students learn to think independently and to problem solve. The goals of a true education are to prepare students for real life.
