Should Awards And Rewards Be Paid?

Trophies are awarded to honor specific individuals therefore we should not demean the honor that comes with it. Success is achieved through hard work and dedication and a trophy should be given to those who earn it. Therefore, trophies should not be given to those that simply participate. A trophy presents a sense of accomplishment though the fact of it being a tangible way to know that a good job was done. Awards give someone the motivation to work hard towards their goals. The awards given need to be earned; otherwise we are teaching the younger generation that they do not have to fight for anything. Participation does not warrant a trophy but success does which is why trophies should be given to those who win.

The inspiration to work for a goal can be given through the want for a trophy or award. Many people in life are lacking in a purpose or goal. An award can help to give people that sense of direction. The military executes a system of awards, such as honoring a warrior for accomplishments in the field. If a soldier is not given a motivation they tend to struggle with their task. Hard work is a quality that is becoming increasingly difficult to find as the younger generations grow older. One reason for this lack is that they are being praised for their participation not for their efforts. The major problem with the ideology of everyone wins is that it equalizes our society and prevents competition. Our economy and country thrive on this competition and therefore require it to move forward. Participation trophies lower the standard for work and equalize the work put in because there is no longer a motivation to be the best. Awards and trophies are a need because they help to jump start progress and
