If the probability that an outcome occurred by chance is p= 0.05 or less, the outcome is statistically significant” (Tanner, 2016). Practical significance looks at the differences overall.
Essay Two The second research question is what is the relationship between IQ and grade point average (GPA)? This study found that the correlation between IQ and GPA is .75. “Correlation, the concept of a relationship or dependence between variables, transcends statistical analysis” (Tanner, 2016). There is a strong, positive correlation between IQ and GPA because of the relationship the two have. When a person’s IQ increases, there GPA is more likely to increase. Other variables that could increase a person’s GPA are having a tutor, studying in groups, making flash cards, and studying more. Correlation involves the relationship between two variables but it is not a proven fact that one variable will cause a change in the other variable. Causation is the cause of something happening. “Although correlation values provide some evidence for causation, correlation alone is rarely sufficient to demonstrate cause” (Tanner, 2016). Correlation is a good test for predicting GPA because correlation describes the relationship between …show more content…
The mean is 3.48. The mode is 2.2, 2.5, 2.7, 2.9, 3.1, 3.5, 4.1, 4.3, 4.7, 4.8. The median is 3.3. The standard deviation is 0.91628540715676. The range is 2.6. The skew is 0.15634842399439. The kurtosis is 1.4876569025029. The second group sum is 184.8. The mean is 9.24. The mode is 9.5. The median is 8.85. The standard deviation is 2.1774925221939. The range is 7.9. The skew is 2.0087082766049. The kurtosis is 6.0229469590207. The only values that changed in both sets of data were the sum, the standard deviation, the skew, and the kurtosis. Sample size affected these variables by doubling the sum, decreasing the standard deviation, increasing the skew, and increasing the kurtosis by doubling each data set.
