Terry Fox, a Canadian cancer patient who had the goal to raise 24 million dollars for cancer, one dollar for every canadian. He wanted to raise awareness for this goal, after surviving cancer and realizing the need for cancer research. He wanted to run across Canada, however, had to stop due to the recurrence of his cancer. Although having a disability, he insisted in persevering through his struggles, unlike all those before him; making him exemplify the definition of a hero. Moreover, he persevered through his struggles, in order to raise awareness for cancer. As a result he inspired his beliefs within others. Attesting to the fact, Terry Fox is the greatest Canadian hero, as he is admired as a hero for the initiative he took in order to raise awareness for cancer. …show more content…
Due to the fact, his actions are the representation of the word “hero”; “a man of distinguished courage or ability, admired for his brave deeds and noble qualities.” (Dictionary.com) He chose to take initiative, and raise awareness for cancer, although having cancer and a disability himself. Proving his courage, as he bravely ran across Canada, although having to struggle with a prosthetic leg. Consequently, Canada admired his courage, due to the fact it brought them hope; "I'm gonna do my very best. I'll fight, I promise I won't give up." (Terry Fox) He made them admire his perseverance, resulting in them to persevere alongside him. Perseverance, is one of the characteristics that relates to the definition of “hero”.
