“Teegan is such a sweet child,” Ms. Fields says. “It’s such a pleasure to be her teacher.”
Holly Allen only stares at the tall lanky teacher with frizzy hair so thick it looks like a bird’s nest rest atop her head. Ms. Fields nervously pushes some of her hair behind an ear and then looks around the empty hallway, avoiding Holly’s unhappy eyes.
“Why did you call me here?” Holly Allen huffed.
“The parent teacher meetings were last week, we wanted to speak to every parent about their child’s report cards and discuss future options. Teegan’s skills are beyond ordinary—”
“I’m going to stop you right there. This is not the first time I’ve heard from one of you crackpots about my child’s ‘talents’. She’s a bookworm, plain and simple. She’s no Juppir. I’m not going to waste money putting her in a school for gifted children—she’s Naig,” Holly finishes.
“It’s a good opportunity for Naig children. She’ll be streamlined to a reputable college for free if she passes the courses,” Ms. Fields says.
“She doesn’t need to go to college. I’ve told her before. She’ll find a Juppir husband so she can give birth to proper Juppir children,” Holly concludes. Teegan Allen watches from behind a cracked door as her mother takes the paper given to

“A useless job for a useless girl. You’re not going to be anything you little brat. You’re a curse. Born to cause me misery. I should have killed you the moment I felt your wormy little heartbeat,” Holly says with a cruel tone. Holly then pushes Teegan fully away from the car, forcing her to fall on her bottom. Her mother then opens the car door, gets inside, slams the door, turns on the engine and then speeds out of the parking lot a few moments later. Teegan was no one, nothing at all, after all. She thought maybe she was special and perhaps she could help others. Teegan stares at the ground before her and wonders if her mother ever loved her at
