A struggle between opposing forces is the dictionary definition of a conflict. Notice, in this definition nothing is stated about a winner. This is because not all conflicts will have a winner. In the short story “Amigo Brothers” by Piri Thomas 2 friends box each other and everyone believes there must be a winner. Antonio and Felix don’t want to fight because they believe it will ruin their friendship if one is chosen as a winner. The fight ends in a tie or draw. They both walk away from the fight as winners and friends. In many relations a conflict ends with no winner.
External conflicts are often thought to always have a winner. In the passage “Amigo Brothers” the narrator says “There will be no draw”(140). The Amigo Brothers, after boxing
