Shooting Rifle Research Paper

Shooting rifle has been a special interest for me during high school. I started participating in High Power Rifle my Freshman year and I have loved it ever since. The object of High Power Rifle matches is to acquire points by shooting rounds into a circular paper target from different distances and positions. The possible scores starting from the middle and going out are X (this counts as a ten, but X count can determine who wins a tie), ten, nine, eight, seven, six, five, and miss/zero. The first distance shot from is 200 yards slow fire while standing, this is my least favorite position. It is my goal to practice to the point where I can shoot a 90/100 or higher consistently. To obtain this goal I am going to practice at least 3 hours a week on my standing position. The next position is still at …show more content…
This stage is my favorite, but it also can be very punishing mentally and physically. I have gotten to the point where I have mastered all the fundamentals for the position and I can keep my rifle extremely still, but that will not be enough to consistently attain a 195/200 score that I want. The most important part of this stage is having the same picture through the sights when a shot is being delivered. This seems like an easy thing to do, but it takes every bit of concentration to do this. If I achieve the bare minimum of my goals I will have a 485/500 score, which will mean I will be shooting high master scores. This seems like a ridiculous goal to try to accomplish, but if I put as much effort as I can into it I know I can do it. This is only the beginning of my high power career and I hope that it lasts for the rest of my life. I even hope to have have job that is related to rifles. This is why I hope to become an engineering student at James Madison University. The knowledge I gain at James Madison University could help me design and test rifles at companies such as Springfield Armory or Smith &

Growing up, almost every single girl my age played soccer, but I on the other hand, found myself spending a lot of my weekends at the Koko Head Shooting Range. I first learned how to shoot when I was 9 years old and since then, I have been utterly hooked. However, I never really talked about this passion with my friends because when most people hear the word “gun” or “shooting” they associate those words with violence and crime. But to me, this hobby represents so much more. Even though I always found excuses to not try out for the air riflery team at my high school, I still believe that shooting is an exemplary individual sport that assists in developing critical life skills.…

There are three types of movements that I know only too well. The first is the sweep: the initial take down of the opponent’s body by knocking his legs out from under him until he falls to the ground. Each bone pulsates in its own unique way as it braces for the impact while being crushed to the floor. The second movement is watching the Sensei urging the Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu competitor to regain his stance. All of this eventually leads to the “tapping out” when you tap the floor to indicate that you are ready to surrender because you are in a life-threatening choke hold or you are about to experience a joint lock.…
