Shmuel's The Boy In The Striped Pajamas

I read a book titled, “The Boy in the Striped Pajamas.” It is about a boy in striped pajamas, Shmuel, who is an eight-year-old Jewish child in a concentration camp during the Holocaust. He is befriended by Bruno, a German boy and the son of a Nazi official who’s in charge of Shmuel’s camp. The two boys meet on opposite sides of the barbed wire. Neither them nor Bruno's mother understand what really is going on at the camp. The others are told that the camps are full of luxury and comfort like a resort; when they watch the propaganda film it shows the entertainment and cultural activities the prisoners supposedly enjoy in the camp. The end of the book tells you that Bruno and Shmuel are last seen standing holding hands in the gas chamber and waiting. There is a reference to "the chaos that followed," which can be interpreted as the chaos of the inmates being gassed. In the epilogue, Bruno's father, finds his son’s clothing by the fence and figures out what must’ve happened. Bruno never appears in the epilogue, so it is heavily implied that the two boys have died, but it is ultimately unknown.
