Shil From Flowers From Phil Monologue Analysis

The actor I am writing about in this monologue is Phil from Flowers from Phil. In this scene, Phil is a young boy, who is on a blind date with a girl named Sydney. Phil is nervous because he is meeting someone new and is pretty shy about it. He does not communicate well with a lot of people, so he is hoping this date goes well. In his monologue, Phil is constantly stuttering, correcting himself, and is trying to engage with the other person, without making the situation awkward. Sydney, the girl Phil meets, is wearing a mask and testing Phil to see if he is the right man for him. Throughout the monologue, Phil is able to grasp who Sydney is, and her feelings for food, men, or facial looks. This helps Phil gain better confidence when talking

JAY DEFEO: THE ROSE Jay DeFeo’s The Rose is remarkable. Its dimensions of 10.7’ x 7.7’ x 11” and its weight of 1,850 pounds are unbelievable. The time--eight years--spent on creating this work is extraordinary. In my opinion, this alone merits The Rose’s inclusion in this and all other art history classes.…

He wants to start a new life in the woods as a deaf mute, and escape all of the “phonies” in his life. When his younger sister, Phoebe Caulfield, begins acting like him and prepares to run away with Holden, he finally realizes the errors of his ways. It is a pivotal moment for Holden when he watches Phoebe on the carousel. “The thing with kids is, if they want to grab for the gold ring, you have to let them do it, and not say anything. If they fall off, they fall off, but it’s bad if you say anything to them” (Salinger 232).…

Hi Rudin, Thanks for letting me know of your upcoming run-through. No I'm not sick and tired at all, I am excited for you (tired maybe lol). If I would live closer I wouldn't have to think about it at all, even with the Rose Bowl on at the same time. I am not surprised the maestro would not like to have anybody at the rehearsal, I was actually thinking of asking for myself, but I dismissed the thought for that reason, remember in London they didn't like it either. Thanks for willing to Skype, but under the circumstances, I will go to the Rose Bowl.…

Jennine Capó Crucet, the author of the book, Make Your Home Among Strangers, came to Elon University to talk at the common reading lecture. Make Your Home Among Strangers was the book that all incoming first year students had to read for their classes. Her speech revolved around her book and how the story really came alive in her life. Her book was about a girl, who dealt with many struggles of being a minority, a first generation college student, moving away from home, school troubles, problems going on at home, and many other things.…

My interpretation of homelessness is, homelessness is a problem faced by people who lack a secure and affordable place over their head. Throughout the sessions I gradually learnt more about people suffering due to homelessness and what they did on a day to day basis. We read the poem ‘Hungerford Bridge’ - written by Katie Campbell, to help us understand the stereotypes that are used against homeless people and how the stereotypes contribute to the attitude towards the homeless society. In one session we had to explore the higher class people 's attitude towards the homelessness people.…

Suji Kwock Kim is an Korean American poet, more widely known for her works describing the terrors of warfare, the turmoil of loss, importance of community and emotions. Her prestige poetic voice and essence made her the first Asian American in history to achieve the Walt Whitman Award of the American Academy of Poets. One of Kim’s award winning poems, “Monologue for an Onion”, is written from the perspective of an onion being cut up by a person; As Kim is describing the scene with all 5 senses, and how the onion feels about the person mutilating its body, can the reader really understand the satirical and metaphorical power of her words. Suji Kwock Kim’s satire, “Monologue for an Onion” is not written about the onion itself, as the onion is…

Become a different character.” I had read some articles with similar concepts such as “try forgetting your anxiety” “convincing yourself to be confident”, but I wasn’t really convinced. I believed it’s impossible for me to become a new character, until I heard those words from Simon. Simon is the one who was born with shyness, but now he has been standing on the stage and telling joke about the awkwardness he had created. I used to think only people born outgoing would be able to do the speech successfully.…

What could possibly drive a woman all the way to the point of murder? In “A Rose for Emily,” a short story by William Faulkner, and Trifles, a play by Susan Glaspell, the reader sees two stories in which this happens. In both of these stories, the protagonist is a woman, and both kill the men in their life. In Trifles, Mrs. Wright kills her husband while Emily kills her boyfriend in “A Rose for Emily.” Both of these stories take place from the third person point of view and are re-told in the future after the deaths have taken place.…

Today I am going to talk, in very abridged form, a little bit about my experience of getting to know the amazing person who goes by the name of Cecilia Bernard, and what I have learned about her over the past three years of knowing her, which was both a fortunate and unfortunate event. Fortunate, obviously, because I got to meet her and see everything great about her. Unfortunate, though, as it took me as long as it did to meet her. What I first learned about her is that she was very open and inviting. I found this out on the way to New Orleans.…

I was recently invited to attend the Toastmasters meeting in Millington, Tennessee, however I was not entirely sure what to expect. I was, to say the least, surprised at how informal and socially casual the club is. In contrast with a TED talk’s audience, there is no harsh buzzer or overbearing timer to stare at while giving your presentation, the meeting was in fact, very relaxed and only focused on self-improvement. It was a place to hear others and be heard yourself, to give honest feedback, to improve the art of the conversation, and to master the art of public speaking.…

Lines 8 through 11 express the idea that grass is a uniform body. There may be differences in the types of grass and they may be called different names such as “Kanuck, Tuckahoe, Congressman, Cuff” (11), but they are all uniformly green grass. Moreover, these lines also express the idea of equality since the same grass will grow “among black folks as among white” (10). Thus, these lines express the ideas of uniformity and equality.…
