This being said the way we connect to others is a crucial part of our self-esteem and has become a means of survival in today’s society. Years ago nothing was digital and if you felt a certain way you either said it aloud or kept your mouth shut. However, today’s world is completely different. Any thought or feeling you have you are able to post online for people to see within seconds and recently religion has been something trending on multiple social media platforms and has been receiving comments that are both positive and negative.
Some positives that social media has regarding religion is that it aids in spreading awareness. Since social media is so quick and easy to use you can get a following of people almost instantly. You can share your beliefs and connect with others who enjoy your posts and what you have to say about your religion. “The recent surge in social media participation represents to us that users desire more than just a tool for information and basic communication. Some find it annoying and get offended that they think their religion is better than anyone else’s. These comments can be very hurtful to the person as well as their religion. Nevertheless, this will always be an issue we find with social media and though people may get offending the big picture we must realize is that social media is helping people. Social media has allowed for religious groups to come together from all parts of the world and express themselves with one another. These groups are put into effect to connect people with other people and give them an understanding of different cultures or religions they may have never been able to understand fully before. These groups strengthen our religions and act as guides to help expand them as well.
Overall a relationship must continue to exist between social media and religion. These conversations whether others agree of disagree allow people to think and discuss these religions. This being said, by communicating on these platforms we are spreading ideas and growing our religious groups now more than ever. Lucky for us we have the opportunity to speak our minds and learn from one another. Whether we talk to people from our past or strangers from different countries.
