Many crime shows and action movies spoon feed answers or at least create a connect-the-dots that outlines the solution perfectly for the audience so that thought is not necessary. In this case, however, answers are not spelled out and the viewer must actively participate in watching, creating connections and analysis along with the character to such a degree that it becomes an engaged activity where the audience feels closer and more attached to the characters and their plights. Even in the trailer, the villain escaping beneath the word RUN or Sherlock and Moriarty separated by only a cell wall accompanied by SHELTER is not a summary or even preview of the plot as most trailers try to achieve. Countless potential viewers have dismissed the series because of its short screen time and long absences, claiming loss of interest or frustration at the wait. Unfortunately, to reuse the test comparison, they are taking into account only the simplistic essay prompt without reading the actual essay itself. The beauty of Sherlock lies not only in the official content readily available on Netflix but also within the theories, art, and fiction it encourages, not to mention the inner reflection it has invoked on people who let it. Another common critique is the questionable morality of profiting off of what is essentially fanfiction, a script derived from another writer’s work. For years, arguments have raged about the ethical nature of fanfiction as a whole, and though Sherlock is no exception it must be taken into account the amount of time that has passed between the publication of the original and that of the spin off. Additionally, because Gatiss freely admits that he has made a career of fan fiction, his acceptance and conviction of this fact further inclines audiences to accept it too.(GOOD REFUTATION - ALMOST CONVINCED
