They predicted that the concentrations of acid will change the shell depending on how much concentrations is used. They did this lab to show how the oceans are acidifying, which is because of global warming it is increasing the temperature which causes more acid in the ocean. This lab explains what will happen if the oceans keep acidifying like they are.The main reason people even have global warming in the first place is because people keep using fossil fuels, but other reasons include plastic and how we are not disposing of them correctly, and also deforestation.Certain things happen when there is an increase in acid in the water this could include a loss in an animal which could lead to another which could lead to another also reefs and shells could be destroyed we know this because of the lab we just did. The research question They did is What does different concentrations of acid do to shells? My hypothesis is the more acid that is in the water the more the shell will deteriorate. …show more content…
Next measure 120 millimeters of water in a beaker three times and pour it into three cups (make sure to number cups). Next put one quarter teaspoon of vinegar in cup 1, one half teaspoon of vinegar in cup 2, and one whole teaspoon of vinegar in cup 3. Next place each shell in a different cup take plastic wrap, put it over the beaker and a rubber band to make sure it stays on. After a week take out the shells dry them and take the mass again and record it, make a line graph to see the initial and final weight. Your independent variable should be the concentration of acid the dependant variable should be how the shell desolves and gets
