Sheep Heart Lab Report Essay

The purpose of lab was to see how a heart looks/works on the inside and how the flow of blood travels through the body. This lab relates to a lot of what we studied in class pretty much the whole cardiovascular system and how it works, like its functions of transporting nutrients, oxygen, and hormones to cells throughout the body. I worked on this lab by myself and it took about one full class period and about one hour outside school to complete this lab.

I studied the heart and discovered the different parts of the heart on the inside and outside like the left ventricle or the pulmonary valve. I then figured out the functions of several parts of the sheep heart like the coronary artery. I then identified the structures of the sheep heart and then traced the blood flow through the blood vessels and the rest of the body.

I observed how the heart works and how it has the same qualities as a human heart. And works same as a human heart the color was dull, in a sense meaning it was grey inside and out. Some questions i was asked to address in this lab were what do you think the purpose of the coronary

Then, the right atrium then the right ventricle and leaves through the pulmonary arteries to the lungs. Oxygenated blood enters into the pulmonary veins from the lungs and enters the left atrium and the left ventricle then it leaves through the aorta then travels to the rest of the body. In the heart beat there is sinoatrial nodes, atrioventricular nodes, bundles of his, and perkinje fibers. Sinoatrial nodes are a small muscle in the heart that produces some kind of signal. Atrioventricular nodes act as a relay station that controls the heart rate. Bundles of his muscles that also regulate the heartbeat and finally perkinje fibers they send impulses to the cells.
