In season 9, episode 5 of Shark Tank, the sharks (investors) are faced with many important decisions that can make or break the businesses for these four companies whose businesses range anywhere from clothing to home improvement. The first entrepreneurs that came on the show was Eric Huang and Steven Mazur with the company “Ash & Anvil” out of Detroit, Michigan. Their clothing line is a brand made especially for “short” men. While making their pitch to the sharks, Steven said “one in three American men are 5’8’’ and under, which represents over 40 million adults in the U.S. alone.” This line of shirts is perfectly tailored to fit smaller men. They went on the show seeking a $100,000 investment in return for 12.5% of their company for them to expand and increase their inventory. Since they launched their company, about 9 months ago, they made over $130,000 in online sales and have sold out twice so far thanks to over 900 happy customers looking to buy more clothing. The Bottoms up dual-purpose vest is like a regular life vest, but it could do so much more. It could be used as a regular life vest, a floating seat, and a seat cushion. They were seeking a $120,000 investment in exchange for a 15% stake in their company. Their chair cushions are listed for $65 and their vests are listed for $90, each of them being “the world’s first Coast Guard-approved, multifunctional personal flotation device.” Most of the sharks were skeptical about investing in their company because they only made $63,000 in the last 3 years due to the delay in the Coast Guard approval, but Kevin ended up making them an offer of $120,000 for a 33.3% stake in their company plus a 10% equity to pay Mark for his partnership, in which they gladly took because it was the only offer
