The Shang Dynasty period was from 1600 BC to 1046 BC, it was located in northern China, around the Yellow River. Archaeologists had not found any evidence of the Shang Dynasty until they found oracle bones. Many achievements were made during this Dynasty, like using bronze to make their weapons, armor and tools. The Shang Dynasty was founded by a man named Cheng Tang, who eventually took over the Xia Dynasty. The people were polytheistic, meaning they believed in more than one god. Thus, the Shang Dynasty was a civilization that conquered and made many accomplishments. Before discovering oracle bones not much evidence was found to prove that the Shang Dynasty existed. They used bronze to make many objects. Weapons, tools, armor, and pots are examples of the objects they made. Archaeologists found wine vessels weighing in as much as 2,000 pounds. Bronze was also used for making chariots, this gave them an advantage in their wars.
The Shang Dynasty was founded by a man named Cheng Tang. According to legend Cheng Tang took over the Xia Dynasty. The Shang Dynasty was governed by about 30 kings in total, over the course of 600 years. The king was served by officials, they were given jobs in specialized positions of authority. Normally the officials belonged to a higher class since they were given such high jobs. The people of the China during the period of the Shang Dynasty were polytheistic, which meant they believed in more than one god. The king’s ancestors and former lords were only part of a world of rich gods and souls. The highest god was Shangdi who was responsible for the natural powers like rain, wind, snow, and clear skies. Shangdi was able to send down either fortune or disaster on anyone on earth. Like Shangdi was allowed to control the weather because he was the highest god.
