Sexual Orientation In Trinity Western

Decent Essays
I agree with you the University is not failing to respect equality rights about sexual orientation. The primary cause is that Trinity Western is a private, Christian faith-based university legislated by British Columbia to aid the public. And the mission of this University is developing “Godly Christian leaders” while providing many educational programs.
I can get a line here that two different rights under the Charter are colliding with each other. The equality right for lesbian or gay and freedom of rights to practice religion for TRU. Both are equally important, but one has to respect that people are following the biblical rules not recently but since many years before. If the religion school has certain rules that they have to follow based

Laura Schlessinger, a popular American talk radio host, once said “When you’re the victim of the behavior, it’s black and white; when you're the perpetrator, there are a million shades.” Her words ring no more true than when examining a recent standoff between Gordon College and the New England Association of Schools and Colleges (NEASC) concerning the role of religious freedom and the acceptability of harassment targeted at sexual orientation minorities. Gordon College seeks to maintain a religious policy which bars sexually intercourse outside of marriage, and consequently dating among LGBT students. The NEASC, who provides Gordon College it’s accreditation, has demanded the college reverse its policy and move towards more tolerant practices or risk losing accreditation as a higher education institution. Historically, society has continually strived towards equality and, in doing so, our understanding…

Last month at Bremerton High school former marine, Joe Kennedy who is now an assistant Football Coach was asked to stop his “50-yard line” post game praying ritual. This ritual has never before been an issue, as he does it without bothering anyone or forcing anyone into joining prayer with him. It was not until a single parent complained that the school district noticed this and decided that even though his actions were “entirely well-intentioned” they had to take action against it. The grounds used for the complaint against Kennedy was that Bremerton is a public high school, therefore separation of church and state must be applied. With only one parent and the school district against his actions, Joe decided he was not going to back off of his “50-yard line” post game ritual, after all, he had plenty of people backing him up, including an atheist athlete and the athletes mother.…

After reading the passage “When Women Become Men at Wellesley,” by Ruth Padawer I came to conclusion that transgender students should be allowed to get an education in a same-sex institution like Wellesley College because these students are or were identified as women once in their lifetime. In institutions like these is what they require to be accepted to their education system, something to proof that they are a woman; if that is a problem title IX is there to be used for the help against gender discrimination. Although same-sex institution lose their identity by admitting women in the transition of becoming a man, these campuses offer equality for all the students. But sometimes they can run in conflicts like one Timothy came across while…

Rhetorical Strategies in Tobin’s “What’s Missing from the Anti-Trans Ruling?” America is a country in which every man is created equal; but what about the young men and women who may not identify as the gender they were born with? Harper Jean Tobin is an advocate for transgender teens who as of right now, are not being treated as equals by law. Chapter five of the textbook, Constitutional Law and the Criminal Justice System by J. Scott Harr, Karen M. Hess, Christine Orthmann, and Jonathon Kingsbury, goes into extensive detail on the first amendment of the United States Constitution. To quickly explain, one of the principle items within the first amendment is that it forbids the United States Congress from endorsing any one religion over any others, as well as not restricting any individual, or group of from practicing their own religion (Harr, Hess, Orthmann, & Kingsbury, 2015, p. 121-162). That being said, according to one article, public schools were sanctioned to allow their students to read the Christian Bible, as well as practice this religion inside the walls of the schools. Unfortunately, as of late, the United States Congress has ruled that students in public schools cannot practice the Christian religion and to do so would be considered unconstitutional (Sneed, 2014).…

Public schools are presented with the unique challenge of trying to balance the religious freedoms students’ are entitled, while simultaneously maintaining a separation of Church and State. Schools must take proactive steps to ensure educators understand the legal requirements mandated by the First Amendment. By establishing clear policies and training workshops, schools can ensure teachers are knowledgeable in managing religious expression. Although, these steps provide important guidelines, they may still fall short of eliminating all debates or avoiding controversy among the diverse student population.…

The 1990s were an era of increasing recognition of homosexuality in broadcast media, so much so that scholar Ron Becker referred to the period as “the gay 1990s”, as programs increasingly began to depict gay characters both explicitly and implicitly. Since the emergence of such characters the representation of members of the LGBTQ+ community has increased and broadened, which is especially evident when comparing the “Men on Film” sketch from the pilot of FOX’s In Living Color in 1990, and ABCs How to Get Away with Murder (2014-present). The depictions of LGBTQ+ characters in these programs represent the evolution and synthesis of audience targeting in increasingly competitive industrial environments and in the increasingly tolerant sociopolitical…

A current issue in education is the lack of support of the lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender students (LGBT). Transgender refers to a person’s gender identify--a person’s innate sense of being male, female, or somewhere in between( Banks& Banks, 2013).
