The benefits of a well trained staff are multifold. Training improves morale by helping employees gain job security and satisfaction. The more satisfied employee will contribute to better company success and reduce turnover and absenteeism. Well trained employees require less direct supervision, which frees up supervisors to pursue other areas of need. There is less waste of time and effort. Well trained employees are less likely to make errors which result in waste and accidents. Well trained employees are acquiring skills and becoming more efficient employees, they become a greater asset for the company. According to Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, federal law prohibits sexual harassment in the workplace. There are two types of sexual harassment, Quid pro quo and Hostile Work Environment. “Quid pro quo harassment involves a proposed exchange of a job benefit for sexual favors” (Note on the Law of Sexual Harassment, Pg. 2). “Hostile work environment harassment involves behavior that ‘has the purpose or effect of unreasonably interfering with an individual’s work performance or creating an intimidating, hostile, or offensive working environment’” (Note on the Law of Sexual Harassment, Pg. 2).
In the case of the Doohickey company, a Hostile Work Environment was established when a woman reported incidents of men making inappropriate comments about her body, requesting that she show them her breasts, constantly telling her crude jokes.
