Sexual assault is when a person experiences unwanted sexual advances. The experience can be physical, verbal, or visual assault. The victim is forced into the situation by one or more attackers. Sexual assault and sexual violence violates United States’ law. If the victim reports a sexual predator, the accused person will face federal charges.

It is natural to feel these emotions after experiencing a trauma. But if these feelings to intensify for weeks after the assault, the victim has developed Post Traumatic Stress Disorder. PTSD can create flashbacks of the sexual assault, causing the victim to mentally relive the painful experience. Victims will attempt to repress the memory of the trauma and change their daily routine to avoid places, events, or things that remind them of the assault. People who have PTSD will experience hyper-arousal. Hyper-arousal is completely psychological; victims will have difficulty sleeping, become easily startled, feeling tense, and random angry outbursts. A victim having hyper-arousal will have difficulty functioning normal daily tasks.
