Many parents tell their children not talk to strangers but with the internet it's a whole different perspective. Just because a teen is not talking to a stranger face-to-face does not mean it's not as dangerous. Strangers who sit behind computer screens, faceless and nameless may try to interact with teens, acting like someone their not; For example, a teen girl gets a message on Facebook from a guy she does not recognize. He says he is her age and wants to hang out, but behind this anonymous Facebook user is an adult trying to cause danger. Some parents do not realize the risks their children could be taking when interacting with complete strangers, which could result in a teen being kidnapped and/or rapped.
Cyberbullying is another dangerous interaction with teens today. Cyberbullying can happen any day at any given time even if a teen is completely alone. Whether done in person or through technology, the effects of bullying are similar and is even harder for teens to get away from online then in person. Forty-three percent of teens admit to being cyberbullied in the past year, but teens who don't usually suffer with emotional or mental issues that could cause a teen to commit self harm.
