Tyler’s oral response to “Seven Kisses in a Row” demonstrates multiple weaknesses and strengths. One of Tyler’s weaknesses is that instead of using decoding to figure out the word “spangles” she as an alternative uses a rhyming word to try and understand the meaning. Relationships, changes and appearances can be caused by multiple events and situations dealing with human beings. They can then alter from time to time off what another person has said or what they have done to affect them in their lives. The novel “6” written by Karen Tayleur and the picture book “Piggy Book” by Anthony Browne both go to show the relationships, appearances and how individuals change in their own perception. The novel and picture book not only shows us the issues and problems that people go through but goes on to identify what a person can become and how their relationship has changed once some of these issues and problems arise. The diction throughout the piece is strong, each word carefully chosen to create the largest impact on the reader. “I couldn’t use my locker for weeks,” remarks Smith, “because the bolt on the lock reminded me of the one I had put on my lips when the homeless man on the corner looked at me with eyes merely searching for an affirmation that he was worth seeing” (Smith). This word choice allows the reader to visualize having a bolt tightened between his or her lips and recognize the guilty and morose tone that Smith attempts to convey throughout the piece. In addition to the thoughtful word choice, Smith uses metaphors near the end of the talk to augment his understanding of language.…

Edna St. Vincent Millay’s “What lips my lips have kissed, and where, and why (Sonnet XLIII)” explores the tragedy of inevitable loneliness. Much of poetry is considered self expression, and with that notion in mind, and for the sake of this analysis, I will assume that Millay is documenting her own feeling or experience even though it is definitely in the realm of possibility that Millay is speaking from the point of view of an third-party character or separate persona. “Sonnet XLIII” divulges a moment frozen in time of a dismal, pained mother trapped in the snare of nostalgia, reminiscing her children’s company. Initiating the sonnet, Millay synecdochally utilizes abstract body parts to hint at a much more larger idea. For example, Millay…

The song “Same Love” by Macklemore is a very powerful song that has a deeper meaning behind it. The Song “Same Love” had changed my opinions and thoughts about gay rights and homophobia(people who have phobia of gay) within the hip-hop community and the world. Also it want us youth of our society to think in a new direction. Humans in our society believe that the actions and activities that people are involved are either classified as gay or straight. “Same Love” starts off with the lyrics, “When I was in the third grade, I thought that i was gay, because i could draw, my uncle was, and i kept my room straight”.…

Maggie, a girl of her own unfortunate environment In Stephen Crane’s “Maggie a Girl of the Streets” published in the year 1893, there is a very clear demonstration of naturalism. This particular piece of work by Stephen Crane was published during the time of the Industrial Revolution. Where the factory workers in the city were in the true since of the word treated like slaves who had no voice, yet they stayed because either you worked for basically nothing and tried to support your family or you died living in the slums and squalor of the over populated city. Ultimately the carters in “Maggie a Girl of the Streets” fall victim to their unfortunate environment as well as their mistreatment from there abusive father and alcoholic parents. “Maggie…
