Seven Different Learning Styles: How To Read?

Improved Essays
Every individual has a unique learning style; which often correlates to their preferred reading strategies. Some people prefer E-books while others prefer paper. This however depends on the preference of the reader, some claim E-books are distracting with the temptation of the internet being a click away, while others debate that the constant flicking through pages preoccupies them from fully engaging with the material (Baggini, p.2). While there are a variety of options to choose on how to read, a persons learning style may affect their choices. There are seven different learning styles that a person could potentially possess, and each style has a distinctive way of enhancing ones understanding. An auditory reader for example may read aloud to themselves or have a device read audibility to aid their understanding. A visual learner, however, might enjoy a paper book to sketch out pictures or write down personal connections to benefit their reading experience. Although there are seven different learning styles, there are two different reading styles; Deep reading and active learning.

Even though I have not finished reading “The Federalist Paper,” I still learn a lot about the foundation of American government and also about myself as a learner during the process. I know that I am more of a visual learner than an auditory learner, but I usually get bored really quickly whenever I read a long text that is full of information or does not have any pictures or graphs. So instead of reading “The Federalist Paper” in one go, I break it down into sections and then use a highlighter to highlight important facts and take notes as I go. These learning tips are not new, but I always find them helpful when I need to analyze the text later on. I also tend to get lost a lot when I read and end up skimming and skipping throughout the text.…

For as long as I can remember,or what it seems to be forever, I’ve gone to class, studied for tests, taken tests, and maintained a job at a restaurant as server. I would go through all these daily routines and not think twice about why I was doing things a certain way, it just seemed like the natural way to do them. I didn’t sit in class and think to myself “ Oh, he’s a visual learner.” To me, it was just someone looking at a picture. It never crossed my mind that there was actual research reasoning behind something as simple as staring at a picture.…

Learning is multidimensional. Very seldom will a learner use just one type of learning style. There are four different learning styles: Visual, aural, read/write, kinesthetic and multimodal. As a person who likes to read printed books, I would like to argue that printed books are no longer necessary in this digital era as all writing can be stored electronically. As time goes by, we are getting used to a fast-paced life with the frequent use of modern electronic products, so too as the way of reading. The e-book, short of the electronic book refers to books that are created and read through modern information technology and Internet technology, which has realized paperless reading and become more accessible to readers.
