“The feud might, perhaps, have died down or been compromised if the personal ill will of the two men had not stood in the way” (Saki 83), this quote really shows how two the main characters were foolish and instead of ending the feud between them, they kept trying to kill each other. Ulrich and Georg were both very foolish and kept trying to find each other. It not only captured my attention from the beginning, but also provided me with perfect examples on how this writing went from adequate to amazing with several devices and tactics. Between the intense details that engulfed this story to the undying dialogue and other aspects of the story, I found Wolff’s tactics to be quite effective. Wolff enhanced his story by giving it several places to grab the attention of the audience, as well as providing entertainment from the first sentence to the final sentence. To begin, Wolff’s intense and vivid details throughout the passage was the first thing that captured my attention.…

Cormack McCarthy’s The Crossing details the emotions of the main character after losing his wolf, and it illustrates a dramatic dichotomy between mankind and nature. Two stories, the interlopers and the poison tree so similar yet so different, why don’t we compare the similarities between both stories so that we can figure out which one to “use”. Well, first of all both the interlopers and the poison tree are made special with situational irony, this is shown in the last few lines of both stories.
