We could look at the plants we want to bring in, which would be authentic for the area, produce the most amount of food for the area, and where to put all of these plants in an efficient and visually appealing manner. I believe we would start out with the dimensions of the land and design it on paper or a computer system. Then in the building proses they can be the leaders and directors. Helping and showing other students where things are going to go. I could also use the community garden for my photography classes and still life drawing classes. This would be a great opportunity for students to have experiences outside of the classroom. I could continue to use this community garden in years to follow. Getting into the community later on after the initial build is key to continue the benefits of the service project.
Being that so many school subjects could benefit from the community garden how they celebrate their efforts would vary. A few I have thought of would be to actually enjoy the food that would be produced in the garden. The students could also harvest the food and send it to the local food shelter. I feel this would be like a celebration because the students can see how their food and efforts have helped other people. Especially in the urban areas, I believe a community garden would be beneficial to the community. It would also be fun to see the similarities and differences a garden in the U.S. has in comparison to the garden in South Africa. I don’t know much about the soil content and what grows well in different areas of Africa, but I imagine what can be planted would be significantly different. It would be fun for American students to experience food that they have never tried before. Not to mention learning about other cultures and there food choices. The same would be said if students were able to come to the U.S. from
