They were not arguing that Mrs. Hanzout did not deserve her scholarship, but the fact that she was offered to it without even applying for it. She has a 3.6 GPA and a good reputation as a leader in her sorority. Those are really good qualities, but there is probably more than one girl that meets these abilities, maybe some even applied for a scholarship, and they did not get it. The university could have prevented this controversial situation. Even if she deserved the scholarship, they should have taken into consideration that she is the daughter of a government official, so they should have realized that awarding her without applying for the scholarship was going to look quite suspicious. They could have suggested her to apply for the scholarship due to her good qualities.
