Though they have some things in common, they also have many differences. A few differences that most would recognize between the two is their way of creating art, what their work is based on, techniques they used, and their style. However, it is certainly not limited to that. Serrano was born in New York City on August 15, 1950. He studied art from 1967 to 1969 at the Brooklyn Museum and Art School, yet is considered to be a self-taught photographer. Before he created his first piece of art, he worked as an assistant art director at an advertising firm. Now he is known to be an American photographer and artist who has become famous through his use of feces and bodily fluids in his work. For example, he sometimes used blood, semen, or human female milk. Within this series are a number of works in which objects are submerged in bodily fluids, notably his controversial work "Piss Christ", a red-tinged photograph of a crucifix submerged in a glass container of what appeared to be the artist's own urine. Learning about these two artists gives the viewers reassurance that art can be created or classified as anything even pictures of corpses and homeless people. Now that I know you have to understand the art and yourself to get a complete feel for it, I can better relate to what each of the artists created. Although their art is very interesting, their stories that explain what inspired them to create that are make it so much better.
