Sequel Youth and Family Services, in Tuskegee was one practicum site that I interviewed with, to select a placement. Sequel of Tuskegee is a residential treatment facility for adolescent males ages twelve to eighteen.
Sequel of Tuskegee was established in 1998 as a residential treatment facility to serve males who were committee by the Alabama Department of Youth Services, due to a court order. The facility has a separate unit available to serve males placed by the Alabama Department of Human Resources for intensive care treatment. Sequel Tuskegee is a medium risk secure facility with sixty-six beds. Fifty of the beds are licensed by the Alabama Department of Youth Services. Residents are empowered by “Guided Group Interaction” therapy to make changes in their lives, by learning from each other. This improves social skills and helps them become positive leaders of their peers. Adolescents often listen to advice from peers more than that of adults. The Guided Group Interaction therapy promotes behavior modification wherein youth challenge and change each other with the supervision and guidance of program staff members. These new skills are practiced daily.
Social Worker’s Role within the Agency
I interviewed with a medical Social Workers, Ms. Stephanie Bradley. In my opinion, my interview went well. The interviewer was talkative and friendly, which made me feel relaxed and comfortable.
Sequel Youth and Family Services is the practicum site that I chose for my intern because I have an interest in the care of adolescents. Problematic adolescent who are committee in facilities require healing and restoration to return to their families and communities. As a Social Worker Intern, I will provide assistance in improving social conditions and quality of life opportunities for adolescent males in this facility and their families. My goal is to assist with preparing adolescent for life outside of secured residential settings by building self-esteem. I also chose this agency because the interviewer was friendly and talkative. She made me feel relaxed

Social Workers interview families and students to acquire historical information which is used in developing case assessments. The role of the Social Workers include planning family day schedule, conducting group sessions, individual sessions and family sessions, using professionally prescribed teaching methods, techniques and, providing utilization review reports to referral source and sponsoring agencies, initiating family contact, interacting with students in a professional manner to elicit positive change, documenting all services delivered, completing other reports, assessments, reviews as assigned in a timely manner and coordinating discharge
