Senior Capstone Reflection

Decent Essays
Recently, I have grown interest in artificial intelligence and I decided to make my senior capstone related to it. For my capstone, I decided to develop a chess game that would allow a user to play against the computer. In the fall of 2015, I researched about how to develop the program and learned about the mathematics beyond developing the AI. After the research, I decided about the features that version one will include. In the beginning of spring semester, I started on the development of the program. First, I used the whiteboards in the classroom to brainstorm. Then using a program called Dia, I designed diagrams that would allow me to easily start coding. Next, I started coding the program and at the end of the semester, I had an almost

In January 2016, 637,067 homeless citizens were accounted for in the US. Out of those 637,067, 4,000 were accounted for in Virginia. Homelessness in Virginia has gone up 4.2% in the last three years. Aren’t those facts just a bit unsettling? When I heard we had to a Capstone Project, I knew homelessness in VA had to be incorporated into my project.…

On Friday, December 2nd, I attended the Oasis Lunch and Learn event. It was located in the Oasis room in the Jackie Gaughan Multicultural Center and the event took place from 12:00-1:00pm. I believe the majority of the people who attended were all in a multicultural club, however they did not make it clear which specific club they were all a part of. Approximately 20 students showed up to the event and the group consisted of students of all different races and backgrounds. I’ll admit I felt a little out of place at first, but as I began talking to a few of the individuals who attended, I felt very welcome and ended up having a great experience.…

Back in middle school, I was a part of National Junior Honor Society (NJHS). We were the largest class to be inducted into NJHS. Being such a large class meant we would have to raise a lot of money if we expected to reach our goal. Our goal was to raise enough money for our trip to the Lead Conference at Washington, D.C.…

Throughout high school, I have been involved in many activities. I started off with the STEM academy in my high school. In the STEM academy, we held special events that teach people, especially kids, about new experiments and science-related careers. I helped out the STEM academy by explaining people about the experiments, the purpose behind the experiments and cleaned or organized lab equipment. I was a part of the STEM academy for approximately three years in high school and I really enjoyed it because I knew I could make a difference in my community.…

After my first two weeks of my junior year, I have discovered that junior year is going to be challenging. I will make critical decisions that will have a major impact on the next five years of my life (and beyond) as I start narrowing down list of colleges and career paths. Junior year will be stressful for me since I'm in multiple extracurricular activities and I'm taking Advanced Placement classes. I am thrilled that I took AP Language and Composition because it is going to prepare me for college and help me become a skillful writer. Lord of the Flies is a fascinating book.…

    Capstone Proposal

The most challenging part for me in developing a capstone proposal would be making sure I can write well and be clear enough, for others to understand what I am trying to say. Another challenge is understanding what I want because if I don’t understand what I want or what I like to do, it will be hard to plan a capstone that will make me happy. I want to be able to describe my capstone experience as “like no other” and that I don’t have any regrets with my decisions that I made in order to achieve it. I also want to be able to say that I’ve learned and discovered a bit more about myself compared to the beginning. I want my capstone to impact me so much, that it makes me passionately motivated and inspired to continue my life time goals.…

Over the course of this semester I learned a lot about myself as a writer. This English 1010 class has really allowed me to expand my essay structure and ways of thinking. When I first started this course, I was scared and didn’t really know what to expect. I branched out to different styles and types of essays as well as incorporating outside sources into my work. When I received my first essay back with the feedback and the grade, I realized that I was not a really good writer.…

The Cornerstone Seminar is the first college class that I have taken in eleven years, so what can I say, I learned a great deal, or in actuality… I am sure relearned. I was a continual college student for a period of six years either part time or full time during the early 2000’s, but I muddled around and changed my degree four times. Hey – I want to know everything about everything – and that’s a big task! It’s an annoying peculiarity about myself that I am attempting (yes, this is in present tense) to overcome. I have genuinely enjoyed the class and am appreciative of Dr Clermont-Ferrand for her attentiveness and approachability.…

Sophomore year has been an interesting year so far. The first day I walked into AP World History (aka WHAP) confident, but slightly nervous for the workload to come. Spending my time at RVEC has been a quick overlook of how things really are in high school and as being an early college student. I am at my first quarter, and it has been a quick roll with learning how to glide along effectively. This includes study skills, time management, and how to better improve my learning in all classes, even outside activities. All the skills I’ve learned so far from freshman seminar is really showing an effect with how I become successful here at RVEC. The best part that I really enjoyed about the freshman seminar class is that it makes me realize and understand what life is really going to be like when I’m first starting finish school/college, when I live the “adult” life, pursuing my career, and withholding many responsibilities.…
