Selflessness In The Signal By Vsevolod Garshin

The Signal by Vsevolod Garshin. The signal is about Semyon Ivanonv who was a trackwalker who lived not far from the railroad. He once had served right through the war as servant to an officer but even that didn’t help him. He came home to find his father and 4 year old son had died. Semyon remained alone with his wife. They could not do much. It was difficult to plough with rheumatic arms and legs. But at the end he risked his life for someone else and became a hero. Don’t just think about you think about the people and things around you.

Selflessness is described in this quote. “He buried the knife in his left arm above the elbow; the blood spurted out, flowing in a hot stream. In this he soaked his scarf, smoothed it out, tied it to the stick and hung out his red flag’’ (Garshin). This quote represents selflessness because Semyon risked his life for someone else. Selflessness is described in this quote. “The bullets hummed about him and rattled viciously against the rocks. Semyon was terrified and cried sometimes, but still he kept right on. The officers were pleased with him, because he always had hot tea ready for them.” I think this is selfless ness because even though he is in pain he is still sucking it up and trying to help out by making tea for the others.

So at the of the story semyon was selfless and kind by risking him self and doing things for others. Semyon was a great man who helped at cared for other people but himself. Don’t just think about you think about the people and things around
