Identifying Your Issues in Your Family of Origin
Family therapists always believe that it is an inevitable that they will be confronted by some of the changing aspects of their family of origin in the families they will treat. It was quoted by Virginia Satir, a pioneer in family therapy that says that if she walked into a room with 12 people she would meet everyone she ever knew and when counseling a couple or a family, many people are participating in this interaction. Which can mean; you do not always perceive individuals whom you met with a fresh and unbiased perspective. The more counselors’ are aware of these patterns, the greater the benefit to your client.
