Self-fulfilling prophecy is defined as when someone’s expectations for another person lead them to perform in a way that confirm that expectation. For example, at my old job my manager thought that I was a capable person because my friend, who referred me to him, told him good things about me. He signaled his expectations by always checking up on me to make sure that I was doing okay. He would help me with things I didn’t know about. Since it was my first job, which meant I did not have any experience. I knew he expected me to do well so I worked hard to live up to those expectations. Therefore, his belief that I would be a capable employee became true.
