Deadly accidents and traffic jams will become significantly decreased. But all this comes at a price. For effective planning it is important to forecast what the future will be like. (Samson D., Catley B., Cathro V., Daft R.L., 2012). Knowing the size of the market and having marketing strategies are very important for the project. There are many benefits of self-driving but they there are still many hurdles in the way. The Technology is still expensive. The first fleet of self-driving cars could cost over $100,000. This means it will cost significantly more than average vehicles. (Plumber, 2013). The sensors itself on Google 's self-driving car cost about $70,000.(Clark, 2015). Although the prices are high these prices will decrease as the more of the cars are being produced. The technology has already been introduced to some cars as additional features like self-parking. (Plumber, 2013). But a market which will very interested in the self-drive Drive technology are Taxi and Truck driving organisations. In 2013 alone there were 9,109 injury crashes, 254 deaths, 11,781 people injured on New Zealand roads through crashes related with automobiles. And 90% of these were due to driver errors. (NZ Transport agency, 2015) Many of the driver errors were distraction, alcohol, fatigue or drugs. Cyber-attacks are when individuals target computer information systems and hack it to take control of the device to steal or misuse the device. Hackers are considered a major threat to the self-driving cars of the future, and with potential to even take over full controls of the cars or even part control has a lot people considering it a major risk. According to a case study by The University of Virginia, the Pentagon and Mission secure inc (2015) after a number of investigations and tests they discovered it is possible to hack and interrupt the sensor system which are used on the cars. These sensors are of great importance for it to function correctly. In one of the tests performed by the experts in the University of Virginia and the Pentagon(2015), they were successfully able to confuse the self-driven car into accelerating rather than braking even though the sensors could detect an object in the way. This caused the car to speed into the object ahead. If this were to happen in a real life situation, it could have resulted in serious injury or even deaths. (Mission Secure Inc. , 2015). This is an issue which can cause self-driving car into weapons for hackers.
