During my initial interview, I had a difficult time thinking of appropriate questions quickly after the client disclosed an amount of personal information. This contributed to this interview becoming awkward, which I believe made it difficult for the client to continue to disclose more information. Throughout this interview I consistently wanted to offer advice to the client, but there is actually supposed to be no advice offered throughout the interview. The idea of offering no advice was really challenging to process because it was hard to believe that I could successfully help my client without working to fix or repair their issues. However, during the initial interview I was able successfully present and maintain an open posture, appropriate facial expressions, proper eye contact, and an appropriate tone of voice. These particular elements are important throughout an interview because together they convey to the client that the professional is sincere and genuine. Responding to the initial interview the client stated, “I felt very comfortable during the interview. You did a good job keeping the conversation going. Also, it felt like I was talking to a friend which made it easier to talk about my problem.” I do agree with the client’s response because I worked to present myself in a way that allowed the client to feel comfortable to disclose personal information. However, I was surprised when the client commended my ability to keep the conversation going because this is something that I believed that I struggled with throughout my initial
