The movie takes place in 1962 on a Texas farm. Walter Caldwell played by Haley Joel Osment is left by his mother, Mae (Kyra Sedgwick), with his uncles Hub (Robert Duvall) and Garth (Michael Cain) to find there fortune. Once Walter begins settling in, he learns of his uncles habits such as Hub’s sleep walking. He later convinces them to spend money by saying “what’s the good of having all that money if you’re not gonna spend it?” which leads to them buying an old lion. Themes throughout the movie show honor, virtue, and courage mean everything. It has to do with believing in something even if it is not true, because the believing part is important. The main characters are well developed, their life stories are told in a moderate paced allowing the audience to stay intrigued. The story of Walter living with Hub and Garth is told and filmed good and makes some consider the possibility of whether or not there was once two uncles raising their nephew in a Texas farm. The themes such as love, courage, and believing are lessons to be used throughout our life. They are well taught and placed in scenes to allow the movie to flow correctly. The cinematography was good. Music, transitions between scenes, wardrobes, lighting, and camera work are able to set the mood of each scene correctly.
