The science fiction will use its strange and unfamiliar characteristics to separate the audience from the topic. These characteristics could be things like aliens, robots, or multiple timeline paradoxes. The parody will then come in with a punchline and explain the situation in a blatant way. This could be a hilariously clueless President, a government futilely throwing ice cubes into the ocean to stop global warming, or a timeline in which someone is shot and someone gets lit on fire in the time it takes to get a pizza. This pattern of separation and explanation is what makes it possible
