Tuesday the 29th at 6:00 in the evening, my friend, Lois, and I experienced the famous restaurant of Schmidt’s. The atmosphere of the restaurant had the authentic feel of being transported into Europe. When arriving at the restaurant, you are hit with the appealing old-fashion design of the restaurant. The blend of American and German culture is evident in Schmidt’s. The restaurant itself has an incredible history of how it came to be. Historical Schmidt’s has the perfect balance of a relaxing atmosphere, undeniable fun, and satisfying food. Unlike most restaurants in Ohio, Schmidt’s has a unique market of legendary sausages. As I opened the menu with anticipation, all kinds of German words stood out on the colorful page of the carte du jour. Having little experience with German culture and language, I felt a little out of my league. The bold lettering stating ‘Signature Sausage Platters’ caught my eye. Bratwurst, Old World, and Milder Mama sang out each name of the plates. As the waiter came over to take our order, I asked him about the sausages that Schmidt’s has been making. The original packing business has been in America for over three generations. Lois and I decided on the Old World Sausage Platter which had a variation of sausages included with it. With four different sausages, the plate provided unique tastes. Mild, spicy, bratwurst, and garlic onion sausages were laid next to a pile of pungent sauerkraut. Although I already had no interest in bratwurst, I tried all four of the sausages with the spicy sausage topping off as my favorite of the evening.
